Recording took place between November 2016 and mid 2017. The EP was initially released in June 2017 to favourable reviews from online music media. In the year following, I’d had multiple ideas on amendments I’d like to make to those tracks, so in June of 2018, I did just that. Brought in Daniele Natoli to add some guitar flavouring, extended a couple of the tracks, made minor tweaks to the mixes and changed the track order for re-release.
Again, I turned to Amanda Easton for vocals as much of my writing now has her in mind though I wanted a male vocalist on a couple of tracks in particular and it was Amanda who suggested to give Glenn Whitehall a try. Glenn is an active professional musician, gigging regularly around Sydney and greater NSW. I immediately took to his velvety smooth tones and ability to hit powerful highs.
Though I still record at A Sharp Recording Studio, the studio had just transitioned under new management. Jeff, who was my engineer and producer for Interstellar Traveler moved up north. My new collaborator is Richard Lake and, more recently, his colleague and accomplished guitarist, Daniele Natoli.
I’m fortunate to have found talented and experienced studio veterans to further develop the Once Around Saturn sound. I do enjoy having lengthy conversations with these guys about various 80s music acts and mixing techniques; and they totally get where I’m coming from and how I want my songs to sound.
This EP was re-released for streaming and download on November 9th 2018, however it is still a work in progress. There are a few more songs in various stages of development. Throughout 2019 these songs shall be finalised to make up a full vinyl album to be released in late 2019 or early 2020.
